UK visa fees increased by approximately 7% on 9 April 2025. The biggest cost for long-stay visas is usually the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which grants access to the NHS during your stay.
The IHS must be paid upfront for the full duration of the visa. The 2025 rates are £1,035 per year for adults and £776 per year for students and children under 18. On a 5-year Skilled Worker visa this is £5,175 per adult — making it the largest single cost.
The following groups are exempt from paying the IHS: Health and Care Worker visa holders, EU Settlement Scheme applicants, asylum seekers, domestic violence victims, and certain armed forces personnel.
