How UK immigration applications work

Most UK visa and immigration applications are made online through GOV.UK. After completing the online application, you will be asked to book a biometric appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) or UKVI service point.

Applying from outside the UK

If you are outside the UK, you apply through a Visa Application Centre run by commercial partners (TLScontact or VFS Global). The VAC collects your biometrics and supporting documents, which are then processed by UKVI.

Applying from inside the UK (in-country)

Most in-country applications are made entirely online. You do not need to attend an office unless asked by UKVI. Track your application status at gov.uk/track-visa-application.
